This document will guide you to upgrade your Drupal 7 Photofolio 2.2 installation to Photofolio 2.3 for Drupal 7.

Prepare your workbench

  1. Be sure that you are currently running Photofolio 2.2 for Drupal 7. If not, please upgrade your installation to Photofolio 2.2 for Drupal 7 first.
  2. Create a temporary installation of Drupal 7 Photofolio 2.3 using our installation profile. You will use this as a reference to guide you.

  1. Backup everything.
  2. Just in case, make sure you backed up everything =) (besides, it's always a good idea).

Update Drupal core

Take a breath and read Drupal's Upgrading form previous versions first. This upgrade will update your Drupal core to the version 7.4. We asume that you are curently using a 6.x version so it's about a "Minor update procedure".

  1. Locate the root folder of your site. Is the Drupal's roor folder, there where the index.php is located.
  2. Delete all Drupal files and folders except the [sites] folder.
  3. Copy all Drupal files and folders from your temporary installation except the [sites] folder.
  4. Login to your Drupal installation as administration user, your site should still work usual.
  5. Run the update.php file calling a url like or, if your site is located under a subdirectory.

Update extra modules

Photofolio comes with several extra modules required to achieve its functionality. The following process will update them to the latest (by the time these lines are written) version, as marked bellow:

  1. Locate the extra modules folder of your site, usually at [sites/all/modules].
  2. Delete all the folders that belong to the Photofolio distribution. Use your temporary installation to figure out the folders you could remove safely. You should remove all the folders that exist in your temporary installation of Photofolio 2.3. If there are any extra module folders that had been installed from you later, you should leave them untouched or update them later manually, which is beyond the scope of this guide.
  3. Copy the latest versions of the deleted modules from your temporary installation.
  4. Run the update.php file calling a url like or, if your site is located under a subdirectory.

Patch your Photofolio theme files

  1. Locate our theme folder in your temporary installation. Usually at [sites/all/themes/photofolio]
  2. Locate our theme folder in your drupal 7 site. Usually at [sites/all/themes/photofolio]
  3. Replace the following files in your installation, using the corresponding source files from the temporary installation
  4. Replace
  5. node--gallery.tpl.php
  6. views-view-list--galleries--block.tpl.php
  7. views-view-list--galleries--page.tpl.php

Patch your site's DataBase

Because a known Drupal issue,, related to update.php and the installation profiles the next system message may be appeared:

Notice: Undefined index: name/version in system_requirements()

To solve this use a tool like phpMyAdmin and:

  1. Locate the System table.
  2. Edit the row with the value profiles/photofolio/photofolio.profile in the filename
  3. Change the status of this row from 0 to 1

Clear all cached data

This step is important in order to force your template to be informed for the changes you have made in the template files.

To do this go to Administer » Site configuration » Performance » Clear cached data
